Scarves: A Humble Fashion Staple

We are four days into the year 2016 and  I wish you all a very Happy New Year. This year Up your Fashion, Style and most importantly the Happiness Quotient.

The New Year should always be about humble beginnings and my first post of the year 2016 is on the same lines.

To the most humble fashion accessory : The Scarf

Scarves have been around for the longest time and are by far the most understated fashion accessory. Its versatility and effortless wearability are its selling point. The fact that it can be worn and styled for all seasons makes this humble piece of cloth the dark horse of accessories segment.

From my college days, I have had an inclination and affinity towards scarves. From solid colours to printed ones in vibrant hues, scarves have the immense power to transform an outfit effortlessly.wp-1451881751634.jpg

This post shall feature my favourite types of scarves and tips on styling them.

This is my personal favourite mainly for its effortless styling ability. They are also referred to as circle scarf or a loop scarf owing to its shape having no loose ends.

wp-1451845627293.jpgStyling Tip: Loop it twice around the neck over a round or a v-neck pullover/shirt/top/cardigan and you are good to go.

Cheat Style: You can also create your own infinity scarf by tying the lose ends of a rectangle scarf to form a circle and styling it as an infinity.

These are also called the rectangular scarf and are the most common type of scarves available. These are preferred as they are versatile and unique styles can be created from this piece of cloth.

wp-1451845933469.jpgStyling Tip: They can be styled in a number of ways; loop it around your neck multiple times, tie it into a bow or even a simple knot. My favourite is throwing it over a formal dress with a belt clinched at the waist.

Cheat Style: Wear it as a belt by twisting it through the loops of the garment you are sporting.

This is the most sophisticated type of the lot. It is a staple for all fashionistas and the square scarf is indeed not for the faint hearted.

Styling Tip: I prefer tying it with formal shirts or even teamed with a well structured blazer.

Cheat Style: Use them as an accessory for your handbag. Tie it around the handles and customize your bag.

These are basically humongous scarves which double up as a wrap. Pashmina wraps are used for the colder months.

Styling Tip: Wrap them around or twist them as a muffler to keep yourself warm in the winter months.

So these were my favourite scarves styles . Glam up your outfits by adorning these beauties all year along.

My cousins, who live in NYC, laughed at me a few years ago when I wore some really nice, cool, oversized summer scarves in cotton and hemp. It’s weird, isn’t it? I’m in the fashion mecca with non fashion relatives, in a collection of scarves my stylist and I took an hour to pick. Fun.
