Velvet continues to capture hearts with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Victoria Beckham leading the way – the trend has already permeated the wardrobes of the celebrity set, proving to be a red-carpet favourite throughout the colder months and into the early spring. From the celebrities to the runway models, everyone is hoping on to the velvet bandwagon.
When you think velvet, you think rich and luxe. This fabric made a bold entry in the fashion arena in late 2016, only to disappear surprisingly soon. However, velvet outfits and trimmings became an IT thing in 2017, on the back of every posh or just sartorially conscious and hungry girl in town. Now the world has embraced the velvet trend in all its grandeur.
A variation in the trend this time was colored velvet. Along with the basic blacks, velvet made a foray through bold colours sashaying down the New York Fashion Week runways.
I had my apprehensions of inculcating this trend as a part of my wardrobe but I allowed velvet trimmings and accessories to help break the ice. In this post, I am wearing a black velvet shrug over a burgundy jersey dress with leather patches. I am pleasantly surprised how conflicting and overwhelming fabrics like leather and velvet are seamlessly blending in.

Velvet as a fabric emanates a very strong personality of its own so an overwhelming dose of it can be a tad intimidating. If you’re unsure about incorporating this fabric, I suggest, start with basic accessories and slowly maneuver your way to a velvet dress.
Until next time,
